Cubs Visit Local Studio

Yesterday, the Weblos Den from Cub Scout Pack 300 visited the Faribault studio of Ivan Whillock, carver, painter, sculptor and musician.

Ivan showed the boys his first painting, made when he was nine years old (the same age as many of the Scouts!), then told them about wood, carving, sculpture and painting. He even demonstrated carving on the statue shown above. The visit was part of the Artist Activity Pin requirement. Thank you, Ivan, for inspiring our boys.

Afterward, we walked across the street and had pizza (and a good time) together.

If you would like to join the fun and expose your son to a great variety of interesting, engaging, and enjoyable activities, give me a call or drop me a note!

On the Air

February 1st, 2007 by Mary Schmelzer

Tune into KYMN today at 12:30, 1080 on the AM dial, to hear Dusty Budd interview me about the Northfield Professional Resource Exchange. We’ll talk about how the group got started, how the members–Northfield area professionals–exchange business, good business practices, and help the community. As one of the founding members and 2006 president, I’ve seen the group transition from a good idea to being an influential member of the business community.

If you are interested in more information (or were away from the radio at the time of broadcast) check the NPRE website. We meet weekly in the conference room of the Archer House to share new ideas and bring business to each other. Contact a member if you are interested in coming to a meeting.

Published and on the Streets: LAND, ART

LAND Art

Yes, I’ve got it in hand.

In a previous post, I described the book to which my brother, Paul, and I contributed. Here’s what it looks like, up close and personal.

It’s a beautifully done volume, with a textured canvas cover that invites your touch. The interior features die cuts, full-color photos, works of art and informational inserts. In short, it’s the kind of book you could curl up with and spend some quality time. The writing is a treat, too; it really pulls you into thoughtful consideration of a variety of issues.

I could go on and on, but won’t now. Follow the link to my previous post, then to the RSA website to learn more!
